Meal Plan Terms & Conditions

Fall/Winter/Summer Academic Sessions

1. Eligibility

Meal plans are available to commute/off-campus students, residence students, staff, and
faculty. Eligibility may vary based on residence requirements, campus affiliation, and
policies established by the DalCard Office.

2. Contract Period

Fall/Winter Meal Plans
Valid during the dates established in the On-Campus Residence Calendar unless
otherwise specified.

Summer Meal Plans
Valid only for the duration specified in each individual meal plan.

3. Non-Transferability

Meal plans are non-transferable and must only be used by the registered account holder
through their active DalCard to access dining locations. Sharing of meal plans is strictly
prohibited, unless your plan includes Guess Passes.

4. Use of Meal Plan

Meal plan taps are intended for use at participating dining halls.

Halifax Campus, dining halls include Howe Hall, Shirreff Hall, and O’Brien Hall, which are
open to the general campus community during the Fall and Winter semesters. Risley Hall
is restricted to students residing in Risley Hall and LeMarchant Place (LMP).

Truro Campus, meal plans are accepted at Jenkins Dining Hall.

Off-Campus Meal Plans are valid at all dining halls except Risley Hall for non-resident
students.

All plan members may access participating dining halls on both the Halifax and Truro
campuses, where applicable.

5. Account Access

Meal plan balances are linked to the registered student or staff at DalCard and must be
presented at the point of purchase.

6. Refunds and Cancellations

Fall and Winter meal plans are non-refundable after 30 days from the date of purchase.
Summer meal plans are non-refundable after 5 days from the date of purchase.

Summer meal plan balances expire at the end of the designated program period and do
not carry forward into the academic year.

7. Program Changes

Dalhousie Food Services reserves the right to modify menu offerings, hours of operation,
and participating locations without prior notice.

8. Policy Compliance

All users must comply with university policies, food service regulations, and applicable
laws while using their meal plan.

9. Dining Hall Guidelines

To support a safe and enjoyable dining experience, guests are welcome to take:

  • Small bakery items or fresh fruit, and ice cream cone.
  • Coffee or fountain beverages in a reusable mug.

Guests are kindly asked to avoid bringing:

  • Backpacks or large bags.
  • Outside food or beverages.
